Being a foodie for as many years as I have, an event like the 2024 Beaujolais and Beyond Masquerade Party (B&B) at Reelworks (Denver) on November 21st always fell into the “unicorn” category of food festivals.
Beginning in 1997, this celebration has been known throughout the decades for two things: the incredible charity that the fundraising supports, and setting the bar for French cuisine in the Centennial state.
Since its inception, The French American Chamber of Commerce Rocky Mountain (RMFACC) has enticed fans of fine dining to the B&B by featuring a “who’s who” list of culinary luminaries. From Michelin-starred chefs to winners of global cuisine competitions, there has never been a shortage of awe-inspiring talent when it comes to the bounty offered at the B&B, and 2024’s lineup looks to continue this tradition.
But, I’m getting ahead of myself.
I recently interviewed Executive Director Emma Glass and asked her about both the star power that attendees can expect, along with the charitable roots that have fueled this tasting experience for so long.
When it comes to the organization and what the funds will be used for, Glass stated that “The RMFACC is a nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering business development and cultural exchange between France and the Rocky Mountain region. We connect French and American businesses through networking opportunities … we host monthly networking events open to everyone … [along with] visibility campaigns and strategic partnerships. Beyond business, we bring the richness of French culture to Colorado through various events.”
She continued, “Proceeds from the event help sustain our nonprofit mission of strengthening business ties between France and the Rocky Mountain region. Funds are used to provide resources for businesses, organize cultural events, and create opportunities for professional networking.”
One of the elements of the party that helps pave the way for those networking opportunities is through the awards ceremony that, according to Glass, “recognizes companies for excellence in leadership, innovation, and community impact. Following this, we announce the Best Chef and Best Wine awards, ensuring a well-rounded celebration of talent and achievement.”
Glass made it clear that audience members will be a major factor in who those awards go to.
“This year, 12 chefs will participate in the competition, each presenting dishes in one of three categories. A panel of food critics and the audience will both have a say in selecting the winners. This dual recognition ensures both professional expertise and public preference are celebrated.”
After she ran down the lineup of chefs—along with their insanely impressive credentials—it became clear that anyone who will be at Reelworks judging these chefs will have a very difficult time picking a winner.
“This year’s lineup includes culinary stars such as Michelin-starred Chef Ludo Lefebvre. Other notable participants include Chef Tim Lu (Noisette), Justin Fulton (Margot), Brad Yard (Bistro Vendôme), Josh Abro (The Plimoth), Christophe Goudy (Goudy’s French Cuisine), and Julien Renaut (La Belle French Bakery). Each brings unique expertise and creativity to the event.”
Having never attended the B&B previously, I asked Glass what someone like me could expect. She said, “Guests can enjoy unlimited tastings of the newly released Beaujolais Nouveau 2024.” Also, “Beyond food and drink, the evening features live entertainment, including music from Terry Rose (French American DJ), Music 4 Humans (former Cirque du Soleil musician), Maria Maria (international French-speaking singer), circus performers, and a unique live painting experience by Denver-based French artist Cha, whose completed work will be auctioned off. It’s a lively, immersive celebration of French culture.”
Of course, since the soirée’s focus is on everything surrounding the French culture, you know wine is going to be involved. When I asked Glass about this, her answer spoke volumes. “[The B&B celebrates] the release of Beaujolais Nouveau wine every third Thursday of November. Originating from the Beaujolais region of France, this wine marks the first taste of the new vintage and is enjoyed worldwide. Our event brings this festive tradition to Colorado.”
Glass finished the interview by telling me about the next upcoming tradition they’re bringing to Colorado. “Our next gathering is on December 5th at Denver Distillery, a family-run operation specializing in artisanal spirits. Attendees will learn about their distillation processes and enjoy tastings of their creations.”
The Beaujolais and Beyond 2024 isn’t just going to be a culinary highlight of the season, it’s also going to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Whether you want to enjoy the best French food and wines possible, or you are a local business owner with ties to France who’s trying to navigate the American business landscape, the B&B is something you simply cannot miss.
