Being a Broncos fan is a full-contact emotional sport. The season runs from hopeful September through whatever December has in store, and getting through it in one piece takes a little planning.
Here’s how to do game day in Denver right: where to watch, what to put in your body, and how to keep your fandom from emptying your wallet.
Where to watch
If you’re not at Empower Field, the next best thing is a LoDo bar packed with orange. Tom’s Watch Bar near Coors Field is the maximalist option, a wall-to-wall sea of screens where you can follow the Broncos and six other games at once. Get there with at least half your group, because they’ll seat you in stages on a busy Sunday.
For something cozier, Society Sports and Spirits on Blake Street has the TVs without the cavern, plus a dry-rub wing menu that locals will argue about. Viewhouse Ballpark on Market Street is the big-energy pick, with rooftop space and a downtown view, and Jackson’s LODO is the long-running game-day institution where out-of-town fan bases tend to claim their own floors.
Any of the four will do. Pick by crowd size and how loud you want your heartbreak to be.
Or you can also skip the bar entirely. Plenty of fans run their best game day from the couch, with a few friends, a loaded snack table, and full control of the remote. And there’s no shame in watching solo, either. Some of the best Sundays are just you, the broadcast, and the freedom to react however you want without an audience.
The munchies (and the edibles)
Game-day food in Denver leans hearty: green chile on everything, smothered burritos, nachos built like architecture, and wings by the pound. That’s the easy part.
The trickier part is Colorado’s other regional specialty. Recreational cannabis is legal here for adults 21 and up, and for the at-home crowd, edibles are a popular pairing with a long afternoon of football.
A few facts worth knowing before you partake. State law caps a single serving at 10mg of THC and a whole package at 100mg, and everything is labeled with the universal THC diamond. Edibles also work slowly, taking anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours to kick in, which is exactly how people get into trouble. The classic mistake is feeling nothing after an hour, eating more, and then catching both doses at kickoff. Colorado’s own health guidance is blunt about it: if you’re unsure, start under 10mg and wait at least 90 minutes before reaching for more.
Two more things. Public consumption is illegal, so this is strictly a couch activity, not a bar one, and you can’t legally light up or eat an edible at the tailgate either. And nobody drives afterward. Plan your ride before the first quarter, not during the fourth.
Smart money
Sports betting has been legal in Colorado since May 2020, when voters approved Proposition DD, and the regulated apps make it very easy to put money on the Broncos from your phone. That convenience is the whole problem.
Here’s the clear-eyed version. A bet should be entertainment you’ve already paid for, like a movie ticket, not an investment you expect a return on. The sportsbook always builds in a margin, which is why the house stays in business, and most bettors don’t. If you’re new to betting, you can temporarily even this margin with a promotion, like Sportbet.one bonus, but only if you win.
So better set a number you’re fine losing before the season starts, treat it as gone the moment you deposit it, and never chase a loss with a bigger bet to “get even.” That instinct is the trapdoor.
A couple of practical guardrails. Stick to licensed operators, because unregulated sites offer no consumer protection if something goes wrong with your money or your account. And keep an honest eye on yourself. If it stops being fun, or you’re betting money you need, that’s the signal to stop and ask for help if needed. Help is free and confidential at 1-800-GAMBLER or BetSmart.Colorado.gov.
Surviving the season
None of this changes the fundamental risk, which is that the Broncos will find a brand-new way to test your blood pressure most weeks. What you can control is the rest of it. Find your bar or build your couch setup, keep the snacks coming, go slow on anything that hits slow, and bet like the outcome is out of your hands, because it is. Do that, and win or lose, you’ll make it to next Sunday in good shape. Go Broncos.
