As so many young entrepreneurs do, heady jewelry designer Zachary Joseph finds most of his clients through social media; Facebook and Instagram, specifically. Over the past couple of years (he’s been wire-wrapping for 6), the particular aesthetic he’s known for has caught hold of collectors big time — particularly in the festival communities.

Jumping into it, however, has kept him more grounded than before. “I was looking for a way to work from home and ultimately spend more time with my family while still stimulating my creative side,” says Joseph. “This outlet that I found for myself has groovy energy!”

He says his pieces go for about $100 to $1,000 dollars depending on style. He does do custom orders and commissions, though all of his work relies on a regular dose of freestyling.

“I don’t even know where each piece is headed.”

What is it that you do and how long have you been doing it?
I'm a jeweler, and January marked my 6-year anniversary.

How did you get into this particular form of art?
I'm an entrepreneur through and through. I've almost always worked for myself and I was looking for a way to work from home and ultimately spend more time with my family, while still stimulating my creative side. This outlet that I found for myself has groovy energy!

What tends to be the most difficult or time-consuming aspect of wire wrapping?
In my opinion, setting the stone(s). It's difficult to hold onto those little buggers! And I feel it sets the tone for the rest of the piece.

How many times would you say you've poked your fingers with sharp metal over the years?
Too many times to even count on all of my fingers.

Are you seeing an increase in the popularity of wire wrapped jewelry?
I'm not sure if I've seen an increase in popularity, but I have always notice a steady flow of new artist coming up in the scene over the years. Throughout this journey I've gotten to connect with so many talented, beautiful artists. I'm excited to see what the future holds for all of us.

About how much do your pieces go for? Do you do commission/custom work?
About $100-1k. And yes, I will accept custom orders, as far as specific crystals that my clients request. But just about all of my work is freestyle, I don't even know where each piece is headed.

Where do you sell most of your pieces?
I sell mostly everything on social media. Facebook and IG. Those are my jams.
