Yesterday M.I.A. released a seizuretastic video for her single “Y.A.L.A.” that features The Partysquad and Kenzo. It’s the second video release we’ve seen this year that errs on the side of caution and warns watchers of the use of flashing images and chaotic editing.

But what does it all mean Rooster? How do I appropriate the Y.A.L.A. credo and use it functionally in my own life?

Well, first off, the single is allegedly a direct attack on the YOLO lifestyle. Sri Lanka, where M.I.A. was born, is Buddhist and Hindu heavy in their beliefs. They both share the concept of reincarnation and karma where one is reborn after death in a continuous cycle.

Meaning, if you fuck up living that YOLO shit, your next life will pay for it. Don’t piss off your next life. Y.A.L.A. (You Always Live Again) is a reminder that your parents were probably right all along. What goes around, comeths back around.
