Green Day’s Saviors Tour rolled into Coors Field on a hot September day, delivering a high-octane, unforgettable performance which included full sets from their 30 year old album Dookie and nearly old-enough-to-drink album American Idiot. The night kicked off with a fresh jolt of punk energy from The Linda Lindas, followed by punk legends Rancid. The Smashing Pumpkins, led by the wild and ever-interesting frontman Billy Corgan, got the whole stadium amped for the next hour. By the time Green Day hit the stage, the stars were out and the crowd was on fire (literally)!

The band opened with their new track, “The American Dream Is Killing Me,” immediately grabbing the audience’s attention with its urgent lyrics and fast-paced energy. From there, Green Day kept the party going with hits like Welcome To Longview, She, and Basket Case from Dookie. Nearing halfway through the show, Billie Joe Armstrong invited a fan named Ruby to sing the final chorus of “Know Your Enemy,” creating an electric connection between the band and the crowd. She’s A Rebel, Jesus Of Suburbia and Wake Me Up When September Ends were a few of the crowd favorites from American Idiot as the night progressed.

Explosive pyro, bursts of fireworks & confetti rained down from the stage all the way until the end – an emotional “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life).” As I watched time fly by, I had to reflect on my own journey through music. American Idiot was seminal in my adolescence, which made the night truly special. Green Day continues to be on top of their game and will be for years to come.
