For over a decade, Rowdytown has been one of Colorado’s most cherished live music traditions. It’s a homegrown party built on sax-fueled funk, booming basslines, and a whole lot of community love. This Saturday, September 27, Big Gigantic returns to Red Rocks Amphitheatre for Rowdytown 13, and this year they’re pulling out all the stops. The night will feature not one, not two, but three distinct Big Gigantic sets: their fan-favorite Rowdytown set, a Bring The Funk Back set, and – for the first time ever on Red Rocks’ stage – a Big Gramatik set, reuniting with longtime collaborator Gramatik for a rare, genre-bending performance. With a stacked roster of openers including Maddy O’Neal, Cherub, DNMN, Jennifer Hartswick, ProbCause, and Lady Blackbird, it’s safe to say this Rowdytown will go down in history.
This year’s milestone event comes hot on the heels of Big Gigantic’s brand-new album, Fluorescence, which dropped June 20. The album is a kaleidoscope of sound that builds on Dom Lalli and Jeremy Salken’s decade-plus journey while ushering in fresh energy for a new era. Packed with collaborations from Ganja White Night, Daily Bread, Blanke, Lady Blackbird, ProbCause, DENM, and more, the album leans into Big G’s core philosophy: music that radiates light, fun, and positivity. Tracks like “Journey” and “In The City” carry their signature blend of sax-driven grooves and forward-thinking bass, while “Woohaa” (featuring Heyz and Little Stranger) has already become a summer anthem. For longtime fans, Fluorescence feels like a reminder of why we fell in love with Big G in the first place, and for newcomers, it’s a perfect gateway into their expansive sound.
Since its debut in 2012, Rowdytown has grown into more than just a concert; it’s a cultural event. Known for mind-bending 3D visuals, immersive stage production, and that uniquely Colorado mix of funk, bass, and community spirit, the annual party has become a rite of passage for fans. Beyond the stage, Big Gigantic has also used Rowdytown as a platform for philanthropy, donating portions of ticket sales through their nonprofit foundation A Big Gigantic Difference to charitable causes nationwide, further cementing their role as community builders as much as performers.
Ahead of this year’s Rowdytown, we caught up with Dom and Jeremy to talk about the new record, their Colorado roots, and what fans can expect when the rocks start shaking this Saturday. Check out our conversation below!
[Rooster]: Rowdytown is back for its 13th year, and this time you’re playing three different sets in one night. How did that idea come together?
[Big G]: Yes! We just really wanted to do something special for our fans this year. A throwback/funk set to start off the night. We have so many loyal fans who’ve been to every Rowdytown! Then our regular set which is going to be super special because we have so many artists that we feature on our album coming to perform the songs live its going to be super special. And then ending the evening with a little Big Gramatik which is a new side project we started this year and something we know the Colorado bass music fans have been asking for, for a long time!
The lineup for Rowdytown 13 is stacked with names like Gramatik, Maddy O’Neal, Cherub, Lady Blackbird, and more. How do you go about curating openers for such a special show?
So Maddy is really the only true opener for the show. The rest of the artists are special guests during our set. We love having our friends and artists who inspire us to set the tone for the night!
Your new album Fluorescence just dropped. How does this record tie into the experience fans will get at Rowdytown?
We’re playing all of the songs off of the album throughout the night! Plus, we’re performing a lot of them live, with our collaborators, so its going to be an epic experience!!
The album is full of collaborations (Ganja White Night, Daily Bread, ProbCause, Lady Blackbird). Was there a track that surprised you the most once it came together?
I think Highway was the one that just came together so beautifully and really feels like a special song, in that, it embodies so many genres in one song but come together so fitting and really hits me in a the right places as far as a song that musically interesting, hits hard with a bass drop and has some funk and soul and hip hop elements all mixed in together.
Rowdytown has been going strong since 2012. What does it mean to you to keep selling out Red Rocks year after year, now hitting the 13th edition?
We have an incredible fanbase! Enough said, we owe it all to them.
Everyone is talking about Big Gramatik making its long-awaited return! What inspired you guys and Gramatik to bring back the project? And what can fans expect when you guys join the stage together again?
You know honestly we had never really officially done a set! We had done some sit ins over the years but never did anything officially and we just knew it was time to get something cooking and im soooooo glad that we did!
You’ve played some of the biggest festivals in the world, but Rowdytown has become a tradition in Colorado. How does a hometown Red Rocks show compare to anywhere else?
Nothing like a hometown throwdown and of course its just so special when its your own show and its in your hometown and the most beautiful venue in the world. We are eternally grateful we get to experience this every year!
If you could sum up what Rowdytown 13 means for both longtime fans and newcomers, how would you put it?
I think this year, Rowdytown embodies what Big Gigantic is truly all about. An amazing community of music lovers who champion all different kinds of live music whether its dance music, funk music, jazz, DJ’s, club music, bass music and music festivals in general. Its just an amazing experience for an even more incredible community of people who we love dearly!!
