Warble warble warble …

New York’s synth-heavy act Small Black is releasing new music (the full album comes out Oct 16), and just dropped one of our favorite tracks of the week titled “No One Wants It To Happen To You” — something sure to set us up proper for the oncoming weekend. It sounds like a dream on top of a trampoline laced with low-grade LSD that’s been sitting in your dad’s “adult box” since the early ‘70s. Mellow, fun, warped and a little bit bizarre is how we’re running our fingers over the keys with this one.

“‘No One Wants It To Happen To You’ was meant as a mantra,” singer Josh Kolenik tells Spin.com. “Something an older, wiser friend told you once that you might cling to in order to get through a terrible situation. The phrase you keep folded up in your pocket, letting you know better will surely come. Simple and plain spoken, it’s about separating yourself from yourself and taking a second to stand and gape at the bottom, knowing that you might be there for awhile, but that it is a place from which you can rise … ”

See Small Black this Halloween, Oct 31, at the Larimer Lounge.
