Daily Viral: Colorado deputy gets jacked by a mountain lion on camera, while saving someone from the same cat
If it seems like mountain lion attacks are on the rise in Colorado, that’s because they are: Last year a runner suffocated a mountain lion that jumped him, then a hunter was attacked and later the same year, an 8-year-old jumping on a trampoline was badly mauled by a third.
It is however, uncommon for police to get attacked by them, and even more uncommon for the attack to be caught on camera.
But sometimes you get lucky. Just like the deputy in this video.
The Larimer County Sheriff’s officer, along with rangers from the local resources department, were responding to a call about a mountain lion attack on a civilian. When they arrived they found the cat on top of its victim and they leapt into action. One female deputy ran up and kicked the predator off of the person, but the cat turned its ire on her instead.
This video shows what happened next, if only briefly (and kind of shakily). It’s a wild encounter. And one that might have turned out badly for the officer had she not had back up there to help her.
The mountain lion was not quite as lucky as the cop it tried to attack, though. After deputies got it off of their team-member they followed it, and promptly shot the thing dead. It had proven itself to be a problem cat, and problem cats get dealt with, without mercy.
If there’s anything to take away from this video (and these attacks), it’s that your best chance of survival in a mounatin lion attack, is that you gotta fight back. If you make yourself seem as scary to the lion as it is to you, it’s going to pussy out and run away.
If, however, you roll over and try to play dead… well. It won’t be an act for very long. Take a page out of this deputy's book, and start fighting like your life depends on it. (Because it probably does.)
