The end of Sriracha? Production may stop if Sriracha doesn't stop chili-gassing everyone

If you thought Sriracha was only capable of burning your mouth and upper GI tract to a scorching crisp, you're dead wrong. The fiery condiment is out to kill much more than your taste buds and stomach lining; now it's after your throat, eyes, and general head area too. Just ask the residents of Irwindale, California, home of the Huy Fong Foods factory, aka where Sriracha is made. They're suffering sore throats, burning eyes, and headaches due to the intense chili odor wafting from the plant. That's right foodies, your precious spicy lifeblood is pretty much a chemical weapon.

The city of Irwindale filed a lawsuit on Monday claiming that the odor was a public nuisance and asking a judge to halt Sriracha production until Huy Fong can figure out a way not to gas the entire city with chili vapor. According to the lawsuit, city officials met with Huy Fong in order to negotiate an out-of-court solution to the problem, but they denied that there was an issue, saying that their Sriracha-making minions did not suffer from the same health complaints that the Irwindale residents did.

If the lawsuit goes through, production of the red sludge will halt. And you know what'll happen next, right? We'll be forced to shovel shitty, tasteless food in our mouths, without a way to slather it in something that conveniently decimates our taste buds to a degree that we can no longer taste the slop we're eating. Which probably means we'll starve. If Sriracha can't figure out how to not chili-gas everyone, we might perish at the hands of bland food, making Sriracha the most important public health issue of our time. Fuck.
