Half of U.S. stoners claim they go to work high most of the time

There are few things in life that will make you want to smoke weed more than going to work. Whether it’s because you dread the 9 to 5, or because you’re seeking some creative edge, the prospect of doing a job is always more appealing when you’re comfortably baked. Maybe you feel guilty about doing it, maybe you’re nervous about getting caught, or maybe you don’t give a flying fuck. No matter what your case is, you aren’t alone.

A recent poll, taken by the auto company Instamotor (take it with a grain of salt), sampled 600 cannabis users in states with recreational legalization. Well over half of those 600 stoners admit to having gone to work high. In fact, 39 percent say they’ve been under the influence of cannabis at work at least once per week, 17 percent admit it was a once a month treat, and 28 percent do it a couple times a year.

Reefer madness has wormed its way into the workplace. Welcome to 2018.

That might frighten some people, knowing that a such proportion of America’s workforce is doing their jobs high, or will when their state goes legal. It sounds dangerous as hell: how can those degenerates function?

Wrong, actually. Drugs and work go together like peanut butter and jelly. They always have.

Watch any Mad Men episode and you'll see drinking is a common practice in offices — even a cultural staple in some industries. What is alcohol if not a drug. Beyond that, tens of thousands of people take opioids every day at work to cope with hard or painfully mundane jobs. And in Silicon Valley, micro-dosing with LSD is all the rage, to promote creative thinking and cultivate out-of-the-box programming. Even coffee — caffeine — which is guzzled by the ton in workplaces all around the world, is a stimulant substance.

But what of the professionals that are responsible for other people’s lives and safety? You might be surprised, might not; doctors and pharmacists have been known to spend hours on the clock high on their own supply.

Humans take drugs at work all the time for a multitude of reasons. Is it so surprising cannabis users use it at work?

It shouldn’t be. After all, this is the modern age of cannabis science. If you want to find a strain that makes you more productive, or more creative, or more numb to the dull repetition of life in the American workplace, you can. All you have to do is ask your local budtender.
