Hold the phone! There's a selfie statue tearing apart this small Texas town.
Facebook comment threads, hipsters, The Kardashians ... selfies ... these are all things we're going to look back on with disgust one day. That's just how generations work. What we think is cool now is most certainly not; but it'll take a few years before we realize that.
For one small town in Texas, however, one of those trends is forever locked away, cast in bronze and displayed for the whole world to see.
It's a selfie statue. And people are fucking outraged.
Why be arbitrarily outraged at something as innocuous as a statue, you ask? Because! That's the way the world works now. Even though 99.9 percent of us have nothing to do with this statue — and wouldn't even know it existed if not for people Tweeting about it — still everyone has an opinion about it (of course they should have shot the ape, it had a fucking child in its grasp!).
Those are some of the more tame responses to the donation by Sugar Land resident Sandy Levin. The piece in question is actually part of a 10-piece collection, which includes other statues displaying mundane human tasks forever locked in time like playing the guitar, laughing and skateboarding. The two girls holding a phone, parked in front of city hall, is what everyone can't shut up about, though.
