How black gays created EDM and Pharma Bro is back: This is Harmony in the Headlines

Algorithms broken? Too busy to care? Each week we recap the most interesting music headlines from the past 7-or-so days. Simply put, we want to catch you up on what's happening in the boom boom bap while others are busy writing about "isms."

1. With the help of Ninja — a massively popular Twitch streaming star Marshmello was able to win a celebrity e-sports Fortnite tournament and take home a prize of $1 million (to be donated to the charity of the winners' choosing). The duo PWNED, as the kids say.

2. One of Linkin Park's co-frontmen, Mike Shinoda, recently told Upset Magazine how he handled the passing of close friend and bandmate Chester Bennington. "It was hard, but it was something I could strike off my list of things I had done again," he said.

3. Higher up executives have been leaving Spotify — though probably not for reasons people would suspect. The company is doing great, and has been on fire lately after its Wall Street IPO. That, naturally, signifies those same higher ups have done their job and are likely on the hunt for new companies to take to the holy land.

4. Post Malone announced he'll be curating a music festival in his hometown of Dallas, Texas — dubbed "Posty Fest". BECAUSE THE WORLD NEEDS THIS RIGHT NOW!

5. For Pride Month, Billboard explored why straight white males dominate electronic music, when its roots are deep in the black gay club scene of a 1980s Chicago. Damn Billboard, well done.

6. Likewise, Forbes interviewed electronic legend Tommie Sunshine about his new Netflix series After the Raves that seeks "to uncover and showcase how dance music has evolved over the years." The 9 part binge-fuel will highlight 9 cities across the world that helped shape the culture. Weekend, gone.

7. Disgraced Fyre Festival promoter Billy McFarland is in all sorts of trouble because of the event's disaster. But he didn't want to stop there, on Tuesday "he was charged with starting another fraudulent company late last year and running it right up until he entered his guilty plea for Fyre Festival three months ago," says NPR

8. Even though he's behind bars, everyone's favorite person to hate is making noise in an industry that's not even his. Martin Shkreli, better known as "Pharma Bro," claims to have a USB of Drake's Pusha-T diss track that would reportedly "end careers." It's probably bullshit, but whatever it's fun to think about these things sometimes. ...

9. And in sobering news, Elvis Presley's original drummer, D.J. Fontana, passed away at 87. He also played with Paul McCartney, Roy Orbison, and Jerry Lee Lewis — and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009. May he RIP.
