-----

The couple sits in a quiet corner of a crowded Rincon Del Sol, tucked away just enough for some alone time. After finishing a few rounds of margaritas and a basket of chips and salsa, we pull them aside to see how first impressions are going.

Before having a chance to meet them, what’s going through your head?
J: Is she in cahoots with the Rooster girl?
M: Why am I doing this?

Then you see the dater, what are you thinking?
J: I felt pretty comfortable and hope she is as well, she seems to be?
M: Why am I doing this?

What’s the first thing you noticed about them?
J: I feel like you think I’m going to say that she is taller than me but I’m NOT! I noticed her smile first.
M: His hair.

How were the first impressions?
J: Good I think she’s easy to talk to seems really down to Earth.
M: They’re alright.

Are they someone you’d normally date?
J: I don’t really have a type, so yeah? Have to get to know her more. She’s a girl so she fits most qualifications.
M: No.

Give us three words that describe your current dating life.
J: Not really existent.
M: What dating life?

What’s the stupidest thing you ever did because you were bored?
J: It’s really hard to be bored out here honestly, I usually just sleep if I’m bored? Or got shit to do so I can’t be bored.
M: Tide Pod challenge. I didn’t actually do it though so, faked a Tide pod challenge?

What do you usually do to unwind?
J: Smoke weed, play guitar and go out.
M: Play snake on my phone.

Where do you usually meet people?
J: Hanging out with friends, not necessarily bars just out and about.
M: I want to say concerts or work related activities.

What advice did your friends give you?
J: I don’t think I got any advice more just ‘have fun.’ Most people’s concern was them wanting me to make a fool of myself for their entertainment, take a pic of the girl, update them, that kind of thing.
M: Something along the lines of ‘decide if you want to get the combo after you see him.’

-----

Maddie doesn’t go for the combo, instead the couple shares one of the fancier options, the Molcajete dish, with far more food in it for just one person — a solid choice. Then, we interrupt again.

How was dinner?
J: It was good, we’re trying something new, and taking the opportunity to get something new neither of us have tried.
M: It was good. We tried the Molcajete.

How’s the date going?
J: Not good! Nah, just kidding, I think pretty well, she is loosening up and we’re having fun.
M: Better now that I realized he’s ‘Dirty Jon.’ Turns out I have met him when he was bartending at the Boulder House.

Now that you’ve had time to talk, are you attracted to them?
J: What’d she say? I wouldn’t be opposed to hanging out with her again.
M: Hmmm this is difficult to answer, I would say I’ve been laughing ever since we realized we’ve met before.

If you could give them a trophy what would it be for?
J: I don’t know how to explain it, but she very quickly became comfortable and became herself and was having more fun.
M: For his soft hair.

What do you and the dater have in common?
J: I feel like we have a similar go-with-the-flow personality, she seems down for trying new things.
M: He’s a secret Basshead.

Are you holding back?
J: No? Holding back what?
M: Not anymore.

What would your friends and family say about them?
J: She seems fun, seems like a nice girl and they’d hang out with her.
M: For being called Dirty Jon he sure is clean.

How’s the chemistry?
J: Been more like leaning towards friends than other things.
M: It’s been fun ... ny.

Are you looking forward to more time with them?
J: Yeah.
M: I’m definitely looking forward to this next margarita.

How did Rooster do picking your date and date spot?
J: I don’t think anybody is having a bad time, I’d call it a success because we’re having fun.
M: Excellent! I love Rincon Del Sol, been coming here for years.
-----

We send the daters on their way with plenty of leftovers and a really strange realization of them knowing each other. We’re still a little confused ourselves how the name Dirty Jon came to be, but regardless, we follow up with them the next day to see what happened after all this went down.

What happened after dinner?
J: After dinner we called it a night and went our separate ways.
M: Nothing really. Went home and watched my roommates play Friday the 13th

Would you go on a road trip with them?
J: I’m not the biggest fan of driving, so having company is always nice I guess. It seems like she can keep a conversation going and we have some similar taste in music so I’d say yes.
M: Depends on where we’re going, who’s driving and who’s in charge of the music.

What was your favorite part of the date?
J: No offense to her, but my favorite part of the date was obviously the free margs!
M: Realizing that I have met Dirty Jon before, and that I was one of three people that know his true identity.

After all was said and done, how was the night?
J: All things considered, I’d say it was a good night. Free margs!
M: It was alright. There were some laughs.

What late night food would you order with them?
J: Late night food? Not sure, but she seemed pretty open to anything and so am I!
M: Taco Bell - we both love Mexican food.

Final question, would you go on a second date with them?
J: No, but if I run into her while out and about, I’ll buy her a drink and have a laugh with her about all of this.
M: Boulder’s a small town, I’m sure we’ll run into each other again.

Conclusion:
The good news is these two seem to be on the same page. The daters and Rooster had a great time at Rincon Del Sol with the delicious food — and don’t even get us started on those margs. It’s difficult to ever say no to tequila. Let us know if you’re looking to find someone to have more than just a friendship with; we’re all about it, but need to start feeling better about our matchmaking skills again.
