Despite the fact that La Roux, aka Elly Jackson, is a world-famous pop sensation, she’s apparently still scraping together money for Top Ramen and struggling to pay her Cricket Bill. That’s because, in her own words, she’s “never made any money from record sales.”

She said this in an interview with Digital Spy, in which she spoke out about the current state of the music industry, saying that playing small venues is “not profitable” and that she “makes all her money from radio play.” In fact, La Roux and company actually lose money by touring; she and her band oftentimes don’t break even — and, please excuse this interruption, but we’re here to bring you a very important message. We’ve set up a La Roux Poverty Fund to combat La Roux middle-class-ness, so if you can, please, find it in your heart to donate to this very dire cause, then bless you. Bless you so hard. Sorry, La Roux, you’ll just have to be poor and drive Chevy Astros and live on 7-Eleven taquitos like the rest of us.
