Once every 13 years, from our position on Earth, Jupiter and Neptune align in the sky. On April 12, 2022 this rare alignment occurs in the tropical sign Pisces, a sign considered to be “home” to both Jupiter and Neptune. This confluence of energies is symbolic of our times and suggests simultaneous expansion of suffering and spirituality; grief and imagination; overwhelm and opportunity.  Come gather for a mini pop-up festival at Naropa University facilitated by local and national black creatives, astrologers, therapists, activists and artists April 9-12 to honor the conjunction and crystalize a path forward.

Ramon Parish, Naropa faculty member and event organizer, writes of the conjunction: “The new decade has brought us together under shared suffering and vulnerability. It has underscored the inescapable reality of our interdependence and challenged us to dissolve artificial boundaries and embrace a wider sense of shared humanity. We need to reckon with and heal our past to dream and embody new futures. In the symbolic language of astrology these themes are heightened by the April alignment of Jupiter and Neptune.”

Using the power of the Black imagination, astrology, poetry, embodiment and communal arts of celebration, we will step out of mundane time and collectively enter into a “myth-ritual”, exploring what stories are we telling about our future and how might we reimagine them? Can we attune with time as a fluid phenomenon or experience? Can we contact the past through the present? What needs to be remembered and grieved? And what elements of the present are our future selves asking us to attend to and reshape?  

Our inquiry will range across physical, cultural, virtual and imaginal platforms. Facilitated by local and national black creatives, astrologers, therapists, activists and artists from a range of backgrounds and disciplines we will cultivate embodied presence, relationships with the fluid realms of community, compassion, visionary capacity and practical engagement.
