Last month, a court in Texas ruled that governmental agencies, including public libraries, couldn’t ban books that they disagreed with and must reinstate books about “butts and farts”.

We’re just as shocked as you are. It’s completely bewildering to think that the state of Texas has public libraries. Our entire family is from Dallas and only about half of us know how to read.

Parental complaints lead the library to cull books containing material regarding “butts and farts,” which lead to another demand to ban books containing “pornographic filth,” which lead to various books about puberty and the history of racism in America being pulled from the shelves. We didn’t really understand it either.

In harrowing, Orwellian times such as these, we’re reminded of that classic quote: “I disapprove of what you say, but I’ll defend to the death your right to write about butts and farts and poop and stuff.”
