The Sounds, an international synth-pop sensation, catapulted into success after its song “Hurt You” was picked up by the Geico cavemen and steadily beaten to a repetitive pulp. They wrote and released three subsequent albums, the latest of which, “Weekend,” is the catalyst for the current tour. We decided to bother keyboardist Jesper (yes-per) Anderberg with 20 aimless questions before The Sounds come back to Denver and The Gothic Theater March 30.

1. What do you think about a magazine being named The Rooster?

I think it’s alright. Is it from the Alice in Chains song? But then again, that doesn’t really make any sense…

2. Are you excited to come back to Colorado to play for us?

Yeah, definitely. We always have great shows in Colorado, and this next one won’t be an exception.

3. What are some good foreign insults that we may not know of here in the states?

Since Sweden is very influenced by the U.S., when it comes to pop culture we tend to use the same insults as you do, and in many cases we don’t even translate them into our own language. Heres one: ”jävla mög” Figure it out!

4. Who in the band is the best driver? Worst driver?

Since Felix (Rodriguez) and I are the only ones with driver’s licenses, I have to say that I’m the better driver and Felix the worst. Felix is more interested in cars than me though.

5. Name something you remember from being a kid that you miss as an adult.

Legos. Building Legos every day. That’s all I did was build Legos and trash it. Especially space Legos. I’m pretty sure my girlfriend’s and my future kids will be forced to play with Legos.

6. Your new album is titled “Weekend.” Is it true that rock stars live in a constant state of weekend energy, or do you ever think of days as workdays?

When we released our first albums, we definitely lived like it was Saturday every day. Everything was new to us, and you never knew how long it would last. We had some major success early and just lived every day like it was the last day. It was great, but as you grow older, there are things that matter more than a hangover.

7. How long does it usually take The Sounds to write a song you all are happy with?

There is no ”usually” when it comes to writing songs. It’s everything from a few hours to months, sometimes years. Generally, I think that the more you work on a song the worse it gets. It should come to you naturally.

8. Do you think your best stuff is behind you,or ahead?

Ahead of us for sure. The beauty of writing songs is that you never know what’s gonna happen next.

9. You all have five albums now, which is no easy feat. How do you keep going as a musician?

I would say none of them has been very easy to create. They have all had their moments of “screw this.”

10. Are there ever times you want it to end?

Yeah, of course. Almost every week (laughs). Everyone in creative work gets that feeling quite often I think. Performance anxiety can hit you hard sometimes. You feel like you’re useless and that you’re just a joke. Then you write a new song that you’re really happy with or do a great show, and you continue like it never happened. Until the next time…

11. If it weren’t for music, what kind of a job do you think you’d have?

We get that question a lot, and to be honest I’ve never in my whole career had a good answer for it. I guess since I’ve never tried anything else it’s hard to know.

12. Sweden is known for its beautiful people; do you all filter your water there differently, or is it just plain luck?

We do filter our water, but I hardly think that’s the reason. I think it’s a myth; we have tons of ugly people here as well.

13. Aside from Sweden, where do you think some of the more beautiful people are?

Syldavia.

14. If you had to choose, would you rather be insanely beautiful with a low IQ or the other way around?

I don’t understand the question…

15. There are rumors floating around that you have exceptional health care in your country compared with the train wreck that is ours. Do you care to elaborate?

Health care is good in Sweden, and it’s cheap. The way it should be. I don’t know if you mean the quality of it or the price tag of it; cause it’s pretty simple to make health care cheaper. Raise taxes.

16. What makes for a better warming option in the cold: winter parka or a stomach full of booze?

A little bit of both I would say.

17. There’s lots of downtime on the road on tour, what are some of the more creative ways to pass time?

Keeping up the song writing is always good, but you also need some down time to stay sane on the road.

18. Some of your fans here have been asking, “What took you so long to come back?”

We visit Colorado on every tour we’ve done in the U.S. so far, but usually we only have time for one visit on a tour.

19. Do you have any favorite places in Colorado that you like to stop at when you’re in town?

I’ve always wanted to go skiing, but never had the time. I even bought a pair of skis a few tours ago so I could go skiing in Colorado, but that’s never happened.

20. What can we all expect out of the future of The Sounds?

Hopefully more shows in Colorado, but apart from that, expect new music and new tours. We will be around for a looong long time…
