Baking soda has maintained a consistent spot in American pantries since its inception in the mid 1800s. Often used in baking as a leavener, baking soda makes your cookies and breads light and fluffy by creating air bubbles during baking. So pure.

But while that sounds lovely and wholesome, baking soda has a much darker side the folks at Arm & Hammer would probably like to ignore. It's also the key component in turning cocaine into its evil step-cousin, crack. What a terrible use for such a wonderful household product.

So let's say you were really into crack in 2015, but have decided to kick the habit now. It’s a new year, and that marks a new crack-free you. But, now you have all these boxes of unused baking soda. What the hell are you going to do with those? You could try your hand a baking and give the Keebler Elves a run for their money, or you could try some of these handy uses.

>> Use It As Deodorant

Baking soda is great at sucking up smells from your fridge all the way to your rank-ass pits. Why spend $3 on a stick of Degree when you can just powder your arms with the leftover baking soda amassed from that terrible habit just a short time ago? Just add a little water to some baking soda and brush the paste under your arms, let it dry and brush it off.

>> Use It As Toothpaste

Toothpaste is an expense a lot of folks will avoid when deep in the throws of crack addiction. Have you ever seen a crackhead with a nice grill? We certainly haven’t. Regardless, baking soda has been proven to remove stains and plaque just as well as toothpaste — and it helps fight bad breath, too.

>> Use It As Shampoo

Washing your hair when addicted to crack is hardly ever on the list of "to-dos." Fortunately, baking soda makes an excellent shampoo. Just mix one part baking soda with three parts water and pour the solution in your hair during your next shower. Let it sit for a few minutes and rinse per usual. Even people that aren’t recovering crack addicts swear by this method, since most shampoos are often loaded with nasty chemicals.

>> Use It to Treat Heartburn

Getting back into a habit of eating regular meals must be a challenge post crack addiction. Your body won’t be used to eating and this will lead to quite a few upset stomachs. Once again be thankful that you have all that extra baking soda. Just mix a half teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of water and you'll be feeling great in no time.

>> Get Rid of Ants

After a long bout of crack addiction, your house probably isn’t in its best shape. Cleaning was ignored for smoking crack, and now your place is infested with ants. Luckily for you, ants hate baking soda about as much as crackheads hate not having crack. Leave a mixture of baking soda and powdered sugar in areas of your trap house that are especially populated by ants. They'll be attracted to the sugar and die from contact with the baking soda.
