Someday K is the alias of local artist Kevin Weinrich, who we tracked down to grill about his insanely colorful, textured paintings. And in doing so, we may or may not have found out about how much he loves Darth Vader … But that's for another time. We're here to relay his inner workings, natural inspirations, and creative vision to you instead. Let's do this.

What got you into art? Bob Ross, “Ninja Turtles” and coloring books.

You tend to use thick black and then tons of colors. Is there a method to this madness?
I like to make a mess of color and then clean it up with pen and ink. I used to do colored pencil and pencil drawings, graduated to pen and ink, and then found paint, then combined the two.

Is there a particular subject matter you find fascinating?
Nature, animals, trees and outdoor atmospheres. I am an animal lover and a hippy at heart.

What do you enjoy most about being an artist?
Being able to get lost in my paintings/drawings while jammin' some Aesop Rock, Atmosphere or something along those lines. It is a fantastic release from the daily stresses and is super rewarding when I finish a piece and just think, what was I thinking? I love it. A lot of the time I don’t think about anything but just let the rhythm roll. It’s peaceful; it’s my peace in a mad world.

How do people describe your work?
Different … colorful … dope … nutty.

With so many patterns, colors, textures, holy shit, how do you achieve this?
Magic/wizardry … lots of layers and patience.

Where do you find inspiration?
Nature and music.

Any parting words for the readers?
