Round 1

After the couple gets seated in a cozy booth toward the back of the restaurant, champagne is brought over and starts working it’s boozy magic. Chef Marin Konig makes several specialty dishes for them, one being the “flaming cheese” appetizer — which is literally cheese served to the table that’s on fire. Unfortunately, we have to pull the couple aside from the wonderful food to ask what the two think of one another.

Before having a chance to meet them, what’s going through your head?

E: I was like, ‘Oh where’s my date, where’s Rooster?’ Nothing crazy.

A: I can’t believe my friend signed me up to do this.

Then you see the dater, what are you thinking?

E: At first I thought Rooster was my date, then I saw her and thought, ‘Okay, even better.’

A: He had great style.

What’s the first thing you noticed about them?

E: I thought she had a nice dress. I really like it, not too fancy, not too laid back.

A: He looked fly.

How were the first impressions?

E: I think she’s a really fun person and is pleasing to be around, we’re having good conversation.

A: Good, we’ve had great conversation.

Are they someone you’d normally date?

E: Yes.

A: I think so, we both like food, we both like alcohol, it’s working so far.

What are you looking for from the other dater?

E: Getting to know someone interesting and maybe hang out again.

A: A good time.

Three words that describe your current dating life:

E: Crazy, loveless unfortunately.

A: It is non-existent.

Where do you usually meet people?

E: The bars, like the Walrus.

A: Through mutual friends and out I guess.

What advice did your friends give you?

E: Nobody knew I was going on this. I just told my roommate and he was like, ‘Okay.’

A: Get drunk and have fun.

Round 2

Things seem to be going well and there is definitely no shortage of decadent food being brought out. After several more beers are consumed and a great deal of snacks are boxed up for late-night munchies, we pull the couple away to see if the chemistry is as lit as their food was.

How was dinner?

E: Pretty good. Interesting. There was some very unique stuff. I liked it.

A: Dinner was good. It was very fancy and very good. Great conversation still too.

How’s the date going?

E: Pretty good I think. We are talking and getting to know each other. Not bad at all.

A: It’s good. I think the best thing about it is the conversation and getting to know each other and having a lot in common. We’re having a good time.

Now that you’ve had time to talk, are you attracted to them?

E: Well yeah, yes I am. I think she’s very interesting, she’s got some very cool stories and I like her personality.

A: I think so. He seems like a really good guy, and very down to earth, and like I said, we have a lot in common.

If you could give them a trophy what would it be for?

E: No trophies yet, she needs to work a bit harder.

A: I’d say diversity because he’s been to so many parts of the world. He’s into so many different things and he’s had so many experiences with so many different people.

What do you and the dater have in common?

E: Fucking soccer bro! And she likes to explore the city. I have not done that enough.

A: We both like soccer, we both love sports, we both like to party and have a good time; and we like adventure. I hope he said something similar.

Are you holding back?

E: Yes, because you know, you gotta gradually open yourself to someone. You can’t give it all on the first date, what else is left after that?

A: No, I don’t think so … no I’m definitely not.

What would your friends and family say about them?

E: Intersting, cute, not bad.

A: He’s very cool, down to earth and good to talk to, super friendly and a nice guy.

How’s the chemistry?

E: I’d say alright so far, yeah, so far so good.

A: I think it’s good, it’s steady.

Are you looking forward to more time with them?

E: Yes! I would like to get to know her more. I like what I see so far.

A: Yeah, sure.

How did Rooster do picking the date and date spot?

E: Restaurant is pretty good! The girl was very good too. Good job! I thought it would be way worse. I thought it would be a bad match and I’d have to write a bad Yelp! review about Rooster.

A: Biergarten is one of my favorite bars, so A+ on the spot. Date is great! We’re going to License after this.

Round 3

Thankfully there will be no bad Yelp! Reviews for Rooster anytime soon, or the amazing Biergarten. Before leaving the couple, we nudge them a bit into hanging out at least a little longer with a surprise “Lighthouse” shot awaiting them at the bar (pictured across). Once down, we leave the couple alone so they can enjoy the company of one another without being interrupted in whatever happens. We did, however, follow up the next morning to see what went down after we bailed.

What happened after dinner?

E: We went to another bar called License No. 1 and I got to meet her friends and hang out with them for a while.

A: We met up with a few of my friends at License No. 1 for a few drinks.

What was your favorite part of the date?

E: Meeting someone new and interesting and also discovering a new spot in town!!

A: The atmosphere, food, drinks and that Lighthouse shot was killer!

After all was said and done, how was the night?

E: Overall I’d give it a solid B+, it was fun!

A: It was a fun time!

Would you have changed anything about the date?

E: Not really.

A: I don’t think so, it was something fun and different.

Final question, would you go on a second date with them?

E: Yeah I would, why not? I think it’d be fun!

A: He was cool! But I got more of a friend vibe.

Conclusion

If you’re dying for a unique experience and killer food around Boulder, Bohemian Biergarten needs to be on your list of to-dos. You’ll see flaming cheese and drink wonderful German beer all in a fun atmosphere. Just ask these daters. You can even chat the chef up about his crazy life experiences he’s gotten to have through his career. Seems like Rooster did a great job all around with location and matchmaking this time, not sure if you can tell, but we’re pretty damn proud. Prost!
