Name: Andrew

Hometown: Apple Valley, Calif.
Dream job: Being a chef.
Biggest pet peeve: Grinding teeth.
Describe what you look for in a partner: Somebody I can relax with, be me and enjoy my time.
One thing you can’t live without? My chef knife, that or my cell phone sadly.
Why do you think you’re a catch? ‘Cause I know how to cook a damn good meal!
What is your Zodiac sign? Aries. We actually just found out we are both Aries!
Do you think you’re a jealous person? I can be.
Favorite TV series to binge on? Probably Stargate.
What is the most annoying habit other couples do?
The selfies on Facebook where it’s all, ‘I love you, I love you’ crap back and forth. I’m all about being affectionate, but the constant posts are just too much.

Name: Jenn

Hometown: Littleton, Colo.
Dream job: Sign language professor.
Biggest pet peeve: Probably when people pretend they’re doing something they aren’t. Being straight up is something I admire.
Describe what you look for in a partner: Somebody funny and is able to go on spontaneous adventures, also is kind and honest.
One thing you can’t live without? My mom and my brother.
Why do you think you’re a catch? Oh god … I would say that I am kind and prefer to be honest. My mom raised me to be an honest and caring person.
What is your Zodiac sign? Aries.
Do you think you’re a jealous person? Ummmm, yeah I would say yes.
What is the most annoying habit other couples do? The fact they pretend no one else is there when they’re in a group of friends.

The restaurant, abuzz with sounds of a Friday night CSU crowd, makes for a fun atmosphere. Once the couple settles in, we pull them aside to see if this is a good match or if they need more.

Before having a chance to meet them, what’s going through your head?
A: I had no clue what was going to happen so every possibility was going through my head.
J: I didn’t really know what to expect. I’ve been on a blind date before that didn’t go well, so I was thinking of that, unfortunately.

Then you see the dater, what are you thinking?
A: I thought she was very attractive, cute.
J: I was thinking this will definitely be a better date than I was expecting; he seemed really nice with first impression which eased my nerves.

What’s the first thing you noticed about them?
A: Probably her smile.
J: This is going to sound mean, but that he was maybe a little older than me. I wouldn’t say that it was a bad thing, just something I noticed.

How were the first impressions?
A: Good. I think she seems like a nice and interesting person.
J: Pretty good. He’s really kind, really likes his job a lot and knows a lot about the menu which is encouraging because I know nothing about the food.

Are they someone you’d normally date?
A: Probably, yeah. She’s a little bit younger than me and I typically don’t date people more than two years younger, but she’s really not too much younger.
J: No, just because he’s older, he’s not like someone I’ve dated before. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing since I haven’t had the most luck in the past.

What are you looking for from the other dater?
A: A genuine connection with someone fun and cool even if it’s just as friend it would be worthwhile.
J: Good conversation. I actually went on a date last night and had too many awkward silences.

Give us three words that describe your current dating life.
A: Totally bupkis man.
J: Good not great.

What advice did your friends give you?
A: Don’t screw it up.
J: Oh man, the edited version was to be myself, and I guess have some faith since my dating situation hasn’t gone well in the past.

It appears these two are off to a great start — it’s taken a while to clean their plates with how much chatting with one another is going on. After finishing up their fresh fish dishes, we pull them aside to see what we are missing.

How was dinner?
A: Good! It’s been pretty great so far. The food is fantastic, their plating is exquisite and it’s awesome to see the kitchen guys be all smiles and happy.
J: It was really good food and the conversation is way better than previous dates — no awkward silences.

How’s the date going?
A: I think it’s going pretty well. It’s interesting and we have a lot in common. We’re both socially awkward, so it works.
J: Pretty well. I definitely think that we have covered a lot of bases, like the basic information you learn about new people.

Now that you’ve had time to talk, are you attracted to them?
A: I would say yes.
J: He’s a really really interesting person, but I wouldn’t say that I’m attracted to him in an ‘I’ll go on another date’ kind of way.

If you could give them a trophy what would it be for?
A: Her crazy ass stories.
J: Having a really good laugh.

What do you and the dater have in common?
A: Quite a few things. Like I said, both socially awkward, both  Aries, both similar taste in TV shows and movies, and similar taste in humor.
J: We definitely agree on a lot of things, like pet peeves, people pretending to be something they’re not, similar tastes in TV shows, that kind of thing.

Are you holding back?
A: No.
J: Not really honestly. I usually have a lot of first dates so I’m pretty comfortable with them.

What would your friends and family say about them?
A: They would think she’s funny and interesting.
J: They would say he’s very sweet and can definitely hold a conversation well.

How’s the chemistry?
A: I think it’s good but I’m usually wrong with that stuff, so we’ll see.
J: Eh … I don’t know. For me I guess it’s not really present.

Are you looking forward to more time with them?
A: Yeah, actually I am.
J: Yeah, I could go out for another beer I think — and even if it’s not a romantic intention, then maybe as friends.

How did Rooster do picking your date and date spot?
A: I’ll give ya 10 out of 10 for that one! Food is great, ambiance is great, overall just very nice.
J: Date spot was reallllly good, especially for a person like me that doesn’t like seafood a lot. Date I think went really well. Not sure I’d pursue anything further but it was definitely a step up from what I have experienced.

The daters left the restaurant together after splitting desserts, including the house’s special key lime pie. Both Rooster and the daters had a wonderful time at Fish. Though we had to know if it made love spark between Jenn and Andrew. We followed up with them the next day.

What happened after dinner?
A: I walked her to her car and we talked about making plans for another day.
J: After dinner, Andrew walked me to my car and because I was cold he gave me his jacket.

What was your favorite part of the date?
A: Probably the whole thing. Honestly, it was just a fun time all around.
J: My favorite part of the date was how easy the conversation was. Nothing was awkward and we found a lot to talk about!

After all was said and done, how was the night?
A: Very good, except I feel like I may have given her my old phone number by accident.
J: After all was said and done, the night was pretty good! I had a nice time and food was amazing!

Would you have changed anything about the date?
A: Maybe not let my phone die so I could’ve given the right number. [laughs]
J: I don’t think I would’ve changed anything.

Final question, would you go on a second date with them?
A: I would, yes.
J: I don’t think I would go on a second date with him. He was very kind and funny but for me, there wasn’t really anything romantic there.

Conclusion:

Leading up to that last round, we really thought we’d found a match! These two seemed to be getting along so well, then BOOM, there was a hard "no" for a second date together. The dating world is tough everyone, you just never know when you’re making it to playoffs or striking out. Keep sending us your hopeful friends — we would really love to make a lasting connection for someone. Wouldn’t you like to be part of that, too?
