Mention anything about hip-hop today and it immediately evokes the influence of past pioneers who spearheaded its very existence by association. Run DMC, ever heard of ‘em? The group is considered a cornerstone of the movement and still inspires to this day near 30 years later.

One of them, Darryl “DMC” McDaniels, recently forked away from music (though not entirely) to create comics. His first series, aptly titled “DMC,” follows a different kind of hero, one who defends the city’s marginalized citizens against super villains … and misguided super heroes … alike.

He recently hit up Rooster Magazine to play everyone's favorite interview game "Final Word[s]" — and things got real hype, real quick.

What was the last thing you did before sitting down to do this interview?
"I was online looking for black denim jeans that fit like regular everyday roomy pants, with flap back button pockets that are not skinny jeans, straight leg, or any tight crap! They don’t have them anywhere! So I’m about to go into the jeans business!!!!

Who was the last person to text you?
LL Cool J

When was the last time you felt stuck creatively?
When I was drinking a case of Olde English 40 ounces every day. I didn’t know what to do with myself in addition to what I really wanted to do creatively. That was probably 1994-2000.

Last vacation you took that wasn't work related?
I never take vacations. Since I travel sooooooooo much … sitting at home watching The Walking Dead, Into The Badlands, Colony and anything on PBS is the best vacation ever!

Title of the last song you wrote?
‘Special’ — It’s produced by Bumpy Knuckles and it’s amazing!

What's a quote you'd want on your tombstone?
“You think you know? You have no idea!!!!”

What's the first thing you do after finishing up a new creative project?
Start another one.

What (or who) was the final push for you to start making comics?
Riggs Morales! I didn’t want to do it. He said I could do what I’ve been doing with my music my whole life and more! I said, ‘What do you mean?,’ and he said, ‘Inspire! Motivate! Educate! And Entertain!’ I said, ‘I’m all in!!!!’

Who’s usually the last person you talk to before going to bed?
Me

Last piece of advice you heard and actually used?
When my therapist said, ‘From now on speak and tell your true feelings about everything!!!!!

What do you want your entire legacy to be about after you're gone?
That I am/was the Mic Rocking, Hip-Hopping, Rock N Rolling, Show Stealing, Stage Killing, Greatest Rock Star in the Universes! (Not just this universe … all of them.)

Finally, what would you like your fans to know about you that they don't already?
‘I love pickup trucks! They sent me a Bentley … I sent it back! Don’t want a Rolls Royce that shit is wack! I like what I like … and that’s what’s up! And I’ll run your ass over with my Pickup truck!!!!!’"
