This extremely fascinating trance-inducing video and its behind-the-scenes counterparts are a nice hour-or-so break from the other nauseating shit the Internet beholds on any given day.

The online destination of Nigel Stanford makes note that Cymatics is “the science of visualizing audio frequencies.” It’s an entire subsection of bitchin’-ass science, which studies the correlation of sounds to its visual counterparts. There are dozens of ways sound is visualized with its experiments, but recenty Stanford took the area one step further with a video titled “Science vs. Music.” It’s an outright mesmerizing display of the phenomenon.

One of the most (new word alert!) ballingest aspects of the video and its accompanying tune is how the melody was produced. Instead of writing the song beforehand and matching the experiments with the sound, the process was reversed. The team figured out which sounds made for the best visuals and conceived notes from that, further placing them in an agreeable fashion after shooting was complete.

Read and watch all about the processes and experiments on Stanford’s website, it’s extremely fascinating and is a nice hour-or-so break from the other nauseating shit the Internet beholds on any given day.
