… featuring Tripper Jones, Ross Pennock and Lytes Edison

Heading into the weekend without a musical pick-me-up is a brave feat no man (or lady) should ever attempt. It’s social suicide! That’s why we keep everyone held down at the end of each workweek with the dope new new, locally grown hip-hop singles. The talent from artists around here is through the upwardly raised roof! It’s why we care …

Ready yourselves; the pre-weekend full of inimitable hip-hop in your ears is here …

Tripper Jones – "Wave"

Earlier this year, we had the fine pleasure of bringing you a mixtape from a young artist Tripper Jones. The collection, titled “Liquid Drops,” is a wildly impressive feat, and we couldn’t wait to hear how Tripper progressed from there. Last week, we received an answer from above when Tripper dropped “Wave” — a smooth and relaxed joint featuring impressive cadence and flow from the young MC. "Wave" has easily cracked our growing list of best local songs of the year, and it’s available for a free download through Soundcloud.

Ross Pennock – "Decisions"

As Ross Pennock readies himself for a few upcoming shows (with Omar Linx on Friday and opening for Stwo soon after), he gives us a present in the form of a Jeremy Pape directed music video. Ross’ Doomtree-esque style is a unique one and is even picking up a great deal of popularity on the East coast. “Decisions” is a clean offering, and we hope that Mr. Pennock has plenty more of this to offer us in the future.

Lytes Edison – "On My Mind"

Lytes Edison has gained popularity through climbing ranks in the field of battle rapping. Now, we get some studio quality music from Lytes, as he proves his talents to the masses once again. The battle rap scene has grown in size over the past decade around here, and has actually brought Lytes a fair amount of success. If "On My Mind” is any indicator, this talented lyricist has a solid future on the horizon.
