Today, and every Apr 7, is what we refer to as National Beer Day here in ‘Merica— or what we’ve rightfully dubbed the International American Jealousy Day. Because, while other countries have their own traditions steeped in questionable drinking habits, we have this one to celebrate how stupid we were as a collective some 100 years ago.

National Beer Day is celebrated on Apr 7 because of the Prohibition Era, or more specifically, the end of it. In 1932, when our beloved suds-savior Franklin D. Roosevelt was voted in to the highest seat in the land as president, the prohibition amendment took on a historical blow.

Facing a thirsty public, a depression and just a dumb law in general, Roosevelt signed the Cullen-Harrison Act on Mar 22 of 1933. It amended the Volstead Act of 1919 — which enabled the 18th Amendment that effectively banned alcohol — and repealed prohibition. The Cullen-Harrison Act went into effect on Apr 7, and from then on the nation never looked back. Though, probably because “looking back” at past mistakes while on the sauce isn’t something anyone enjoys anyways.

Whatever, old news, happened yesterday, let’s move on …

So to celebrate, here’s what we’ve dubbed our “Beers of the Month” in our April issue. Be sure to check back online and especially in the physical magazine each month for more drinkable delicacies we recommend.

New Belgium
Slow Ride Session

IPA:   New Belgium’s Session IPA Slow Ride really does know how to “take it easy.” This low alcohol, hopped up IPA is still light enough to make for some easy drinking. Slow Ride is perfect for any hopheads looking to satisfy a specific palette while keeping up with their Keystone-binging acquaintances.

Crystal Springs
Summertime Anytime

Kolsch-style Ale: Summertime Anytime is a delightfully crisp and clean Kolsch-style ale. It’s a light bodied ale with subtle hints of hops and fruit. Translation: It’s ideal for day drinking. So ideal the entire staff here didn’t want to put it down. Seriously. Drink this. Anytime.

Funkwerks
Tropic King

Imperial Saison: This hopped-up Imperial Saison kicks a passion fruit punch straight into your taste buds. Tropic King’s only downfall is that you’re going to end up daydreaming of a tropical paradise — soon followed by the sad realization we suckers live in a landlocked state.
