Chinese tech companies are employing “office cheerleaders” to buoy the spirits of their cubicle drones. “Ra, Ra! Type, Type! Don’t Kill Yourselves!”

A recent post by China’s state-sponsored "Trending in China" Facebook page just sent ripples through the crowded pool of online news outlets. Whether it has any substance though is still TBD. According to the post, Chinese tech companies are employing “office cheerleaders” to buoy the spirits of their cubicle drones. “Ra, Ra! Type, Type! Don’t Kill Yourselves!”

They may as well be chanting that. Who knows though. The degree of speculation here is worth noting, as only one company is cited by the already dubious government-handled Chinese media page. And that company itself is kept anonymous; the post just says “an Internet company” and makes the claim that it’s happening everywhere (hence, “Trending”). So take this all with a grain of salt until you start seeing Youtube videos of cheerleaders convincing groups of sedentary Chinese men that their hours are worth something…Oh, right. YouTube’s blocked in China.

Assuming this is indeed happening though, these “office cheerleaders” (now depressingly a literal term), according to the post, are “pretty, talented girls that help create a fun work environment. Their job includes buying programmers breakfast, chitchatting and playing ping-pong with [the workers].” And we can see a picture attached to the post in which a svelte young woman, skirted and heeled, stands in front of rows of Chinese programmers/models handpicked by the government media. Her skirt even appears to be pleated. Yeesh. If you want to think of America as progressive, just read news about China. Why isn’t Jezebel talking about this?
