Last month when Sia — an Australian singer/songwriter — released her video for “Elastic Heart,” all commenting fingers on deck went berserk. It features the 12-year-old dance phenomenon Maddie Ziegler and a muscle-covered Shia LaBeouf performing together in disheveled nude outfits. Cries of “pedophilia” filled the bandwidths and calls for Sia’s head on a platter went viral.

Responding, Sia claims the two actors were the only people she felt could “play these two warring ‘sia’ self states. [sic]” In reality, the video is a stunning performance by both actors and fully initiates an understanding of the struggling personas to non-creeps. But, it’s choreographed in a captivating contemporary dance style, so we get the confusion. The most culture Twitter users ever see is a few artsy-looking designs on the side of Sriracha bottles.
