Do you struggle each day with the tormenting question of whether your favorite band is hipster enough? Well, self-flagellate no longer, because Priceonomics has compiled a list of the most hipster bands in all the land, as well as a list of bands you think are hipster but aren't because you don't have your finger on the pulse of our generation.

They figured out which music was the "most hipster" by looking at two factors: critical acclaim and obscurity.

Critical acclaim was taken from Pitchfork reviews, while obscurity was based on Facebook likes of each review. Priceonomics analyzed all of Pitchfork's "best new albums" for 2013 and 2014, establishing a "hipster music index" for critically acclaimed, obscure bands. They also provide a "beer me bro index" of great bands everyone has heard of.

These are the 10 bands every self-respecting hipster should know if they want to feel secure in their ultra-rare Japanese selvedge denim.

  1.     The Field
  2.     Julia Holter
  3.     Iceage
  4.     These New Puritans
  5.     Fuck Buttons
  6.     DJ Rashad
  7.     The Haxan Cloak
  8.     Julianna Barwick
  9.     DJ Koze
  10.     Autre Ne Veut

… and here are the ten bands not to mention if you ever want to sound cool again:

  1.     The National
  2.     Boards of Canada
  3.     Justin Timberlake
  4.     The Range
  5.     Deerhunter
  6.     The Knife
  7.     My Bloody Valentine
  8.     Chance the Rapper
  9.     Daft Punk
  10.     Haim

The catch: as you were reading this, Daft Punk suddenly became ironic and vintage and is now only being played on oldies stations, which, if you are listening to, are clearly hipster. You wouldn't understand otherwise.
