Yasiin Bey tells Hollywood to f*ck off, effectively quitting music for good. 🙁

Noooo, say it ain’t so, Bey!

Weeks ago, the artist formerly known as Mos Def was arrested in South Africa, authorities alleging (and formally charging) the iconic hip-hop voice of attempting to use a fake passport while trying to leave the country and illegally helping his family stay in the area. Last night, Bey hijacked Kanye West’s social feeds (with permission of course) to announce his innocence and final departure from music.

“I’m retiring from the music recording industry as it is currently assembled today, and also Hollywood, effective immediately,” he says in the below SoundCloud clip. “I’m releasing my final album this year, and that’s that.”

Welp, fuck, that sucks. Dude has been a part of our lives more than any other popcorn-ass celeb has been, and deserves to have his voice heard above most — regardless of his legal outcome. He’s a necessary ingredient of the culture.
