A few breweries in the past have tried it, but ran into legal gray areas when they attempted to make a weed beer — forcing them to say 'We'd rather not' to save face.

But Keith Villa, Ph.D. (the creator and former head brewmaster of Blue Moon Brewing Company), feels like he has the answer to the ever-fabled weed beer. Yesterday, he and his team announced the release of CERIA™ BEVERAGES, "the first to introduce a line of cannabis-infused non-alcoholic craft beverages containing THC, a key psychoactive chemical from cannabis plants that affects how one feels by creating the 'high.'"

You see, it isn't as easy as throwing dime-bags into a large vat of Coors and calling it a day. The way laws are set up (and how federally this is still a sketchy area anyway), adding THC to alcohol is a no-no. it can't be done, and is why others in the space — even adding something as innocuous as CBD into beer — have shied away from it. Villa and his team have gone a different route entirely, however. He brews the beers, then takes out the alcohol, then adds in the weed.

“CERIA will be brewed just like an alcoholic craft beer to maintain its beer taste and aroma, but will then be de-alcoholized prior to the infusion of cannabis,” Villa explained in a press release.

So it looks like beer, tastes like beer, but gives you a high instead of a "call your ex-girlfriend at 2:00 a.m." type of feeling.

The company feels like weed beer will be something that completely upends what everyone knows about cannabis use, much like Blue Moon was to craft beer. And you know what, it's probably right.

“I’m ready to introduce another high-impact brand to the industry again, this time with a new line of custom cannabis-infused craft beers," said Villa, a craft brewing legend. "Today, the opportunity and the demand are here, inviting Americans to enjoy a more social way of consuming cannabis – by drinking rather than by smoking it or through ingestion of edibles.”

To get the psychoactive benefits of cannabis into the beer, CERIA teamed up with Evergreen, Colorado's ebbu labs — a revolutionary company that goes beyond concentrate. Because of its patented process, the company can extract "feelings" from certain compounds found in the plant, and use those to provide exact results. It's also fast-acting, so if you're sitting around cracking cold ones with friends, you aren't waiting around for an hour to get high while they're already naked in the pool.

The products have yet to hit shelves in any market, but promises to be available toward the end of 2018 in a variety of legal states.

Consider the game officially changed.
