Anything to avoid people in the morning. Anything …

AsapSCIENCE recently dropped a knowledge bomb into our coffee game with its video titled “Are You Consuming Your Coffee Correctly?” Apparently, we aren’t, because we’re the type who likes to grab that seven-cup load immediately after waking up (like most red-blooded Americans). According to the video, we should be waiting at least an hour. As if!

Turns out, our bodies increase the production of the “alertness” hormone Cortisol — or “the stress hormone” — immediately after waking up. The clip goes on to say that, “scientists have actually found that consuming coffee or energy drinks during the peak Cortisol production greatly diminishes caffeine’s effect and builds up a greater tolerance to the drug in the long run.”

Drinking coffee after a Cortisol surge is best, says the AsapSCIENCE team, and won’t mess with your sleep cycles as bad as when you don’t. Which is fine, because now we have a scientific excuse to avoid people for even longer until we’ve gotten our proper fix.
