Chase Tafoya is an artist and tattooer based out of a private creative studio in Bend, Oregon. For the past 3 or 4 years, he’s been tagging his coffee cups with random inspirational messages and posting them to his Instagram. Outside of his impeccable skin and canvas work, the lids have become something of a favorite of his followers. “When I first got an Instagram account, I used to post daily positive messages or pics that I saw at random places,” says Tafoya. “One day I was running late for work and as I was walking to my studio, I realized I didn’t have any pics; so I had a cup of coffee in one hand and a sharpie in the other, and the rest is history.”

When it comes to his morning go-fuel, Tafoya doesn’t consider himself picky. “Lately I like it plain, dark roast, with a little almond milk in it. Nothing fancy,” he says.

“It’s cool to start the day with an uplifting quote, along with a morning cup of coffee,” Tafoya says about his lids. “Most people have no idea the impact their words have on individuals and the ability to uplift someone's day.”

Asked if he’ll ever kick the coffee habit and move onto something else, Tafoya dismisses the notion entirely. “NEVER!” he says with a laugh. “I’ve made the switch to green tea a couple times, but keep coming back to coffee. I’m weak.”
