Los Angeles–based ticketing agent AXS and the City of Denver announced last month the two would become cronies in the sale and promotion of concert/event tickets. The deal, which goes into effect Jan 1 (tomorrow, yikes!), encompasses all venues owned by the City of Denver, which includes Red Rocks Amphitheatre, the McNichols Building, Buell Theatre, the Denver Coliseum and more.

Before the deal was made, Denver was merely renting its venues to various agencies that could use whatever ticketing company they wanted, and the city was never able to collect on the fees everyone loves so much and which are so appropriate because of their convenience! Now, it can negotiate for at least a part of those fees.

It’s hard to say whether or not this move will raise ticket prices in the long run … nah, let’s just say it will probably raise ticket prices with even more fees. Now when it does happen, we’re not so pissed about it.
