Last night, MIke Alvarado defied the odds and critics, going the distance in an absolute war and winning a 12 round decision against Brandon Rios. In a rematch of last year's Fight of the Year, few thought Alvarado would be able to outlast Rio's after losing by sixth round TKO in the first fight, but Alvarado fought with the heart of champion, absorbing and dishing out heavy punishment, and willed himself to win last night. Alavardo is the modern-day Rocky, a blood and guts warrior. Buy this kid a beer if you see him, because we know he won't be eating solid food anytime soon. What's next for Alvarado? Oh, just a likely fight with Manny Pacquiao, Juan Manuel Marquez, or third fight with Rios in the Mile High City. We'll see you there.
