Spotify recently announced its annual Year In Music numbers and as anyone probably knows by now, the world is full of upbeat, dance-happy maniacs addicted to pop.

According to the opening screen of its visual announcement, the world’s music choices were sufficiently crammed with, “trumpets … summer … ballads … waves … fancy,” and so on and so forth and plenty more words. In short, many top songs utilized the same concepts that worked for others, which is basically the absolute definition of pop.

Though we ask the lord of sanity help us if another chart-climbing “”hit” utilizes a horn-line just because it works for everyone else. Variety, it’s appropriate now more than ever.

Some notable dates the team chose to highlight include Jan 7, which is how long it takes after New Years Eve for people to get their ass in the gym. Surprisingly the “Loudest Day” (in which the most people listen to rock) is Oct 10, and the “Danciest Day” is Oct 25. We would never have guessed either of those, because we honestly have no idea why anyone does anything anymore.

It should also be noted that as of press time our emails to the Spotify offices have gone unanswered as to which day of the year the most people stream Another Bad Creation’s “Aisha” – or what’s commonly known around the office as the greatest song to ever be written in the history of brilliance by pre-teen prodigies.

A few more interesting dates:

Jan 1:“more hangover playlists played than any other day of the year” (no, duh?)
Jan 7: “highest spike for workout playlists” (because of the 6 day hangover)
May 30: “more happy music was played on this day than any other” (by happy we’re assuming they mean Rammstein’s “Du Hast”)

And since the listeners of the world have listened to the radio at least once or twice in the year or have been stuck in front of the television for a few lonely binge sessions, the top streamed artists/songs will really come as no surprise.

To note, our square pantheon of weed-loving residency was awarded the … highest … honor, being mentioned as one of the chillest, most uberly dopest and gnar encompasing areas in the world.

“Throughout 2014, Chill Out playlists trended much higher than the national average on campuses across Colorado.”

Such a proclamation is cause enough for us to ditch out the rest of the day and celebrate. Who’s up for tacos?
