Quality features, nodding beats and a flow that lingers for hours makes “The Real Ned Flanders” one of our writers' favorite projects put out not just in Denver, but the entire country so far.

Hip-hop mixtapes are already becoming an interesting spectacle in 2015. In the past, artists such as Gucci Mane and Lil B proved comfortable mixtapes can catch the attention of the younger generations just as easily as fully put together albums. It's a marketng tool sometimes more powerful than Super Bowl ads, and our local artists are following suit.

In comes local emcee A Meazy, who just released his new project “The Real Ned Flanders” on Jan 20. A bit of a “left-fielder” in terms of the prominent names in the Colorado scene, A Meazy makes his presence known from beat one of his new mixtape — which he affectionately refers to as a “free album.”

This project has everything any hip-hop head is looking for: Hard-hitting and aggressive sounds mixed with an ear for music that Meazy so eloquently shows off throughout its entire duration. What may be the most impressive part of the project, however, is what makes A Meazy such a promising talent. That is, his ability to keep an audience’s attention with clever wordplay and flashy, experimental sounds while still delivering a message that runs strong. The concepts behind the project plunge deep into the foundation of Colorado’s hopefully burgeoning industry in 2015.

Quality features, nodding beats and a flow that lingers for hours makes “The Real Ned Flanders” one of our favorite projects put out not just in Denver, but the entire country so far. Here’s to hoping quality Denver hip-hop keeps on coming and our hometown talents can get the recognition they so justifiably deserve.
