It’s been almost eight years since experimental indie-rock outfit Modest Mouse released “We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank” — an album which debuted atop the Billboard 200 chart. So in mid-December when the band confirmed it would be releasing a new album “Strangers to Ourselves,” the Wi-Fi fires began to rage from the depths of the ‘net and speculation spewed forth predicting its contents.

So far, little has been officially released about it, aside from the first single “Lampshades On Fire” and its drop date of March 3, 2015.

Word first came of the album when the band’s management arbitrarily asked for fans’ shipping information online. A few days later, one lucky somamabitch received a test pressing of the single “Lampshade On Fire” and a letter from the band explaining the single would be available for purchase the next day.

Consider us lucky it wasn’t the USPS handling said package, or we wouldn’t have had a new album until spring 2018.
