A new study has found that guitarists have a unique brain chemistry which allows them to synchronize their brains when they're playing, in effect reading each other's minds. That's right, in addition to being hotter than you and miles more suave, guitar players are also clairvoyant.

Better get that Fender rip-off out of storage.

Researchers had 12 guitar players play the same piece of music while getting their brains scanned. They discovered that the guitarists' neural networks would synchronize both during the piece, and slightly before playing. In laymen's terms, that means that if you want to know how you're going to die, ask Keith Richards.

The psychic synchronization happens in the areas of the brain that deal with music production and social cognition. So it's no surprise that when people talk about a band's chemistry, or how tight they sound, this may well be what they're referring to. It could also explains why brothers or sisters are the core duo in so many famous bands. Oasis, anyone? No? Fair enough.

Researchers also found that, when a guitarist plays, they temporarily deactivate the brain region that shuts down when achieving big-picture goals, which signals a shift from conscious to unconscious thought. Oh my god, they're psychic and they shred unconscious. Run for the hills.

But, when people like you or us attempt a solo, the conscious portion of our brain stays on, which actually ends up blocking our creative flow.  Pro-guitarists are able to switch to this more creative and less practical mode of thinking more easily.

But, guitarist's creepy intuition comes in handy most when they do that little party trick where they listen to the song once, then can play the entire thing through. By doing that little synchronization/ switch to unconsciousnesss trick we mentioned earlier, they can predict the notes that will come next.

Now, if we could just get them to stop predicting the notes to "Stairway to Heaven" and start predicting lotto numbers …
