Heavygrinder — an absolute oddity in the world of electronic DJs — gave us a playlist to roll heads to before she comes to Denver next weekend. 

Heavygrinder is an absolute oddity in the world of electronic DJs who spend most of their time sampling the atypical boom-baps and dance-heavy loops. Her metal / dance music hybrid is — even for those without the taste for thrash — something of a treat to listen to because of the escape from sonic monotony.

“Metal has a visceral quality to it that has resonated with me from the very moment I was first exposed to it,” she told us recently. “It pulls no punches in getting your inner voice heard, and it sounds badass while doing so!”

She took her love of metal and slapped it with the backhand of electronic and has created a unique outlet for lovers of both. DJing, she says, is a way for her to stay grounded to life and create the party atmosphere she craves.

“There’s nothing quite like being in front of your amazing fans, throwing down a beat and having everybody jump with you,” she says. “It’s like hosting a party for your friends and getting a kick out of knowing everyone had a blast, times a hundred!”

Aside from swinging through Denver next Saturday, Jan 24 to the Roxy Theatre, Heavygrinder — whose real name is Bobbie Merveille — she says she’s working on new releases, which we’ll all get a chance to check out “fairly soon.”

She may be amped to show us; but not nearly as amped as we are to indulge.

And as for Colorado, she says we’re quite possibly all of the bees knees, because “(Denver) has some of the nicest people in America! It’s always a pleasure to come by and play for my amazing friends. It’s also next door to South Park, which is definitely a thumbs-up in my book!”
