Rap Genius has released its list of the most popular songs based off of lyric searches. The results will probably change your life in one way or another!

Like it or not, we’re all completely drenched in a world which follows every Internet click and compiles them into relatable data to learn more about our barren, barley-soaked minds. Every single thing we do online is recorded, and for better or worse, is driving the future of how businesses deal their offerings.

So when a website like Rap Genius — a crowd-sourced annotation site of rap/hip-hop lyrics — reveals its data to the world, it’s both incredibly interesting and a little creepy. On the one hand, we get to see a small glimmer inside of what drives music and who’s able to create the most buzz around the world. On the other, we’re still being monitored and, without fail, popular tastes always tend to lean on the depressing side of the aisle.

Hip-hop heads may be interested to see a few standouts on the list, however, such as newcomers Rae Sremmurd, Bobby Shmurda and Rich Gang. Tastes aside, those artists broke out in big ways in 2014 — and now the numbers are out to prove it.

Ranking a song based off of a fan searching of its lyrics is a unique way to possibly understand a song’s popularity more so than just general streams, however. If a person doesn’t like a song, often they get caught up in life and wouldn’t have the opportunity to click the “skip” button, or simply just grin and bare it.

Searching for lyrics, however, shows people care to listen and want to dissect more into it. Rap Genuis is on to something, and may one day be the ultimate go-to for labels and producers to figure out what people want and how to give them more of it.

Just so long as it isn’t more Pitbull we’re fine with whatever. For the love of all that is holy, do not give the world more Pitbull because you searched for his songs online. You have the power, grasshopper, use it wisely …
