"You'll never amount to anything in life if all you do is sit around smoking dope all day," said every '90s mother to their stoner kids 20 years ago.

Never become anything … except maybe the owner of your own city. How wrong those mothers were.

American Green Inc., a facility based in Arizona that makes cannabis products, just put down an offer of $5 million to buy a quaint little town in California. It's called Nipton, and has about 20 people living there right now.

Plans for the 120 acre spot — which houses a school building, hotel, mineral baths and a general store — include a $2.5 million overhaul and the placement a self-sustaining power grid through renewable energy. Buyers plan to make it a cannabis-friendly municipality, which will likely include touristy-type destinations down the road (it's roughly an hour from Las Vegas). Short term goals consist of a new facility to manufacture water infused with CBD, a production site for edibles, retail stores and artist residency programs.

“We thought that showing that there was a viable means of having a cannabis-friendly municipality and further making it energy independent could be a way of really inspiring folks to say, ‘Why can’t we do that here?’” said project manager Stephen Shearin to Bloomberg.

“The Gold Rush built this city,” he adds. “The Green Rush can keep it moving the way people envisioned it years ago.”
