Ugh, I hate myself for saying this … but here goes … ew … just be yourself? Obviously, people notice looks first. If you look good and seem approachable, happy and confident, then people will take the time to read whatever bullshit you wrote in the “about me” section.
Ugh, I hate myself for saying this … but here goes … ew … just be yourself? Obviously, people notice looks first. If you look good and seem approachable, happy and confident, then people will take the time to read whatever bullshit you wrote in the “about me” section. That’ll get you pretty far. For a lot of people, looks are secondary to personality. That’s where that “about me” section I just made fun of comes in.
When people are browsing your profile, they really want to get a sense of who you are. Writing something like “Live, laugh, love” or “Big poppa lookin’ for a sexy mama” says nothing about you and makes me hate you. Really say who you are and what you’re into. Give people something to go off of other than your MySpace angle. Succinctly, children. Nobody wants to read your life’s story. When you’re yourself and you offer up your true interests and opinions, so you’re more likely to attract someone who you really hit if off with. Someone you don’t have to waste time taking to Chili’s and buying a chicken tender basket for nothing, only to discover some irreconcilable difference between you, like they eat canned tuna, but you do not.
If you present yourself as someone other than who you really are, people will also think you’re really weird when they meet you. Nobody wants to feel misled, and when you’re vastly different than the online persona you’ve created, you make yourself seem as if you need to be someone else to get attention. Boner murder is what that is. So, in short, the most important thing would be who the fuck you actually are if you’re really trying to connect with someone. Bonus points if you can appear sane and have a six-pack.
